Amy Springer (2001) — was a four-sport varsity athlete at BUHS. She played varsity soccer and basketball but she excelled in the sports of cross country running and track and field. As a sophomore in 1999, she broke the school track record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.9 and placed 4th in both the 800 meter and 3000 meter at the Vermont State DI Championships. As a junior she set a school record in the 1500 meter of 4:54.She was the Vermont State DI champion in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:45. She went on to place first in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:34.7 and second in the 1500 meters at the Vermont Meet of Championships, earning the right to compete in the New England Championships where she placed 8th in the 3200 meters. As a senior Amy placed fourth in the state DI meet but the following week, she placed first at the Meet of Champions in the 3000-meter run. Amy qualified to race in the New England Indoor Championships in Boston. Upon graduation Amy held BUHS school records in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m.
With her success Amy decided to try cross country when it did not conflict with her soccer season. She immediately became a force. In 1999 she won the Marble Valley League Invitational, the Marble Valley League Championship, and the Southern Vermont League Championship. At the Vermont State DI-Championship she placed a close second and qualified for the New England Championship. As a senior Amy won the Marble Valley League Championship in course record time and placed second in the Vermont State DI Championships.
Amy continued her cross country and track career at Florida Atlantic University. She held school records in the 2000 meter and 3000m steeplechase and has stayed active since running and placing second among females in Chesterfield’s Pisgah Mountain 50K Race in 2009. She qualified twice for the Boston Marathon and ran the New York City Marathon in 2021.
