Scott Nadeau – 1983

Scott Nadeau was regarded as an elite player in both football and baseball. Scott played right offensive guard on the offensive line. Athletic and versatile, Scott could power block and was a devastating pulling guard as well. During his career 70% of the Colonels’ plays were run to Scott’s side. As good as Scott was on offense, he really excelled as a linebacker on defense. Scott led the team in tackles his junior year when the Colonels went to the state championship game and repeated his tackle leadership during his senior season. Scott was 1st Team All-District on both offense and defense and was selected to play in the 1983 Shrine Football game.

Scott was the #1 pitcher on the baseball team his senior year and led the team in average, home runs and runs batted in. Scott was a feared player throughout the state as a pitcher and hitter. He was recognized as a 1st Team All-District player in baseball and was selected to All-State team. Scott served as Captain on both teams.

Scott was selected to represent Vermont in the Shrine Football Game in 1983 and the First (1st) Annual Twin State Baseball Game in 1983, where he started the second (2nd) game of the series and pitched four (4) full shut-out innings. He made All-Southern Vermont League in football in 1982 both on offense as a guard and on defense as a linebacker, one (1) of only three (3) players selected to play on both sides of the ball. He received Honorable Mention for the All-Southern Vermont League as a linebacker during his Sophomore and Junior years.

Scott received the Dede Stolte Memorial Cup and the Wally Carlson Award for athletic achievement prior to graduation in 1983.

Scott pitched a complete first game of the series during the 1983 American Legion State Championship, which they won – the first State Championship in Brattleboro since 1965.

Scott epitomizes what a student-athlete at BUHS truly is and should be: hardworking, honest, and humble. Scott’s natural talent in both football and baseball was combined with his ability to lead his teammates while teaching them how to play as a unit and to listen to the coaching staff. Scott’s enshrinement in the Brattleboro Union High School Hall of Fame is not only because of his incredible athletic accomplishments but also for his exemplary leadership ability.

Scott took his natural leadership ability to the military upon graduating from BUHS. He entered the United States Marine Corps.  He served from 1985-1991 and then gave thirty-six (36) years in public service. Scott is a subject matter expert in the development, creation and production of Digital Nautical Charts which are used for safe navigation of the U.S. Navy.
